Nukubati is a private island situated inside the Great Sea Reef, off the north coast of Vanua Levu in the Fiji Islands. This is the ultimate Fijian experience..
This gracious plantation style retreat is secluded, with an untouched natural splendour. A remote haven surrounded by white sand, lush rainforest and crystalline coral reefs. Low-rise and environmentally discrete, the island produces electricity from the sun and wind. Nukubati is limited to a maximum of fourteen guests, preserving a unique sense of privacy. Children under 12 welcome during Family Weeks or on Private Island Charters.
Planned activities are:
Snorkel with our local guides who will show and point out the myriad of fishes, corals & marine flora. Snorkel the inner reefs and or snorkel the Great Sea Reef. Come and look at the DVD that names all those fishes in the pavilion.
- Fishing - hand line fishing - great way to introduce fishing to young people - this can be combined with snorkeling - trawling, casting and fly fishing - more for adults only.
- Ecology walk on the reef flat - every child that has been to Nukubati (and many adults) love this; Salote takes you on an ecology walk over the reef and shows you the marine life that call this special ecosystem their home.
- Cultural heritage walk and talk on Nukubati - held up on Lookout Hill in the Fijian Bure. Get a short history lesson on Fiji describing Nukubati Islands role and be pointed out old fortifications and historic islands nearby. Usually captures the children’s imagination.
- Village visit - organized to suit the needs of the group.
Visit and attend a Fijian village school. Recommend the children bring something to give to the school (may even be pre-loved books/sports gear/pens/crayons) - everything is totally appreciated.
- Black Pearl Farm visit . . . see how pearls are farmed, seeded, harvested and of course buy direct from the farm! - what a story.
- Attend a Fijian church service on a Sunday and hear angels sing
- Learn Fijian weaving and similar handicraft making at he resort.
- Sand bank picnics
- Medicinal and herbal tour of the island.
- Octopus hunting ( seasonal) and other gathering and hunting of edible molluscs (mussels, crabs & clams)
- Volleyball - grass and beach
- Beach activities - sailing, wind surfing, swimming, kayaking and the wild thing.
- We can teach the kids how to make Fijian kites and if the wind is right spend an afternoon flying kites.
- Hiking on the mainland
- Fijian Story telling with Salote - this may incorporate the children learning a traditional Fijian Dance
- And we have a huge selection of Board games that western kids are familiar with; and a few games that our staff will teach and play with the kids.
- As you can see, we can gainfully occupy the children the whole time they are on the island.
- Also if parents want children free mealtimes, we can organize picnics with the children off the island or just separate supervised meal times for the children
